My second internship was with Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society’s main office as a conference intern. Mortar Board is a nationwide honor society celebrating college seniors and my networking skills flourished as I met fellow students and professionals affiliated with the organization. As a conference intern, I worked closely with the Manager of Development and Events and oversaw the planning of Mortar Board’s Centennial Conference, a three day celebration that had over 300 people in attendance.

Leading up to the conference, I was responsible for recording and confirming all participants’ registration to the conference, completing the roommate assignments and tracking payments and dietary restrictions. I also created a schedule for the photographer and designed the layout of one of the largest rooms we used at the conference. These responsibilities taught me effective decision-making skills, the use of tools like Abila to aid my record-keeping process and how to productively communicate with others.

The roles above brought out my analytical side, but I also had the ability to take photos for social media content, I designed a photo booth at the conference, created Snapchat filters and drafted internal communications sent to those in the office and Mortar Board members. I also produced two pieces of published content. Here, I interviewed the conference’s keynote speaker, Bryan Stevenson, and wrote a second article about the success of the conference, both published in Mortar Board’s magazine, the Forum.
