I was the social marketing media intern at University Marketing from July, 2018 through May, 2019 and had a variety of responsibilities. This position fed my creative side but also challenged me to understand the analytics behind each creative movement.

I assisted the social media team in brainstorming content for Ohio State’s enterprise social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Snapchat and YouTube) and I independently executed some of these ideas with photos, captions and graphics I created that were posted to social media platforms. I developed strategies for Instagram and Snapchat Stories during Ohio State events and I implemented these strategies by posting Stories natively. I researched specific industry trends and strategically thought about how they can be applied to Ohio State’s brand and audience. I also recorded data from social media posts to understand what types of content kept our audience engaged.

During my final semester of college, I added to my responsibilities by supporting the email marketing team. I had the opportunity to learn the basics of coding, how to schedule emails, how to build emails and how to create trackable links through tools such as Email on Acid.

social media stories

Buck-I-Frenzy is an event held each year during Welcome Week as students move to campus to begin another academic year. Buck-I-Frenzy allows students to familiarize themselves with businesses around campus and pick up some SWAG and snacks. During my fall 2018 semester, I created a strategy and executed it by attending Buck-I-Frenzy, gathering content and posting natively in Snapchat.

For the first day of the 2018-2019 school year, a coworker had the idea to set up customizable chalkboards around campus for photo opportunities in an effort to involve parents in their children’s first day in (or back to) college. The chalkboards are reminiscent of elementary school days and students had a lot of fun taking photos. The goal was to have students take photos with the boards, send photos to parents and either party would post a photo using #WelcomeOSU. I helped recruit students, posted a Story to Snapchat and even got my mom involved!

campaigns

The first campaign of my internship was #BuckeyeLove, from February 1-14, 2018. My coworkers and I spent time on social media strengthening online communities, increasing engagement and spreading the love to fellow Buckeyes! Below, are a few photos I took for social, videos I assisted with and my very own GIF a coworker made for me!
